According to (Thomas D. Seeley, 2010), bees can successfully gather the resources they require (nectar, nest holes) if they (i) have high potential and (ii) they are not too far from the bee’s current location. Bee colonies initially generate ideas on a broad basis, then assess them, and finally decide on one in a “democratic” manner. In this context, the communication between the insects is extremely important. They communicate through the so-called “Waggle Dance“.
A company using the BeeUp method applies a similar process. Future opportunities need to be of high potential but must not be too far from core competencies. Throughout the search phase, those using the BeeUp approach communicate with each other and improve their knowledge as a result. In addition, searching for promising ideas and new talent is iterative; the end objective has been identified, but the way to the objective is still under consideration.
