Hidden Champion: The CEO Challenge
Case study and task
The Invitation
You receive an unexpected message — an invitation to a meeting at the headquarters of Solianis Prime Group (SPG).
The Group CEO himself has signed it:
“We’d like to meet you. There’s something important we need to build — together.”
When you arrive, you step into a bright, minimalist meeting room. Oak furniture, clean design, quiet confidence. Around the table sit six people — the Group CEO and five CEOs from the company’s subsidiaries. Their attire is understated, professional, yet practical — people who lead by doing. On the table lie sketches, technical samples, and small models: traces of their world of precision.
The Group CEO begins:
“Each of us leads a company that dominates its niche. We are what business experts call Hidden Champions — global leaders in specialized markets. You may not know our names, but our technologies shape industries worldwide.”
He pauses, then continues:
“Focus made us strong. But in a world of constant change, focus can also limit what we see. That’s why you’re here. We want you to explore beyond our horizon — to find the next Hidden Champion business model for us.”
And with that, your challenge begins.
Your Challenge: Forge the Next Hidden Champion
You are not being asked to consult; you are being invited to build your own empire. Here, you are the founder, the visionary, and the CEO.
The challenge is to develop and launch an entirely new, innovative company under the protective yet demanding wing of SPG. You are being asked to create a brand-new subsidiary—one that could one day be the crown jewel of the SPG holding company.
Your mission, if you choose to accept it
Build: Design a company rooted in SPG's proven technological strengths—their decades of precision, reliability, and global distribution.
Shape: Mold it into an agile, market-driven enterprise that can move with the speed of a startup.
Launch: Position it for rapid, sustainable success on the global stage.
You won't start from scratch. Your new venture will be instantly endowed with SPG's world-class competencies, technical access, and a powerful distribution network spanning over 50 countries across Europe, North America, and China. The resources are in place. The idea, the drive, and the execution must come entirely from you.
Your tasks
Create a company with:
• Investment: ≤ USD 2 million
• Goal: Break even within 3 years
• Revenue Target: USD 10–50 million by year 3
You will receive 1:1 mentorship from industry veterans who have already built these dominant companies. You will ultimately pitch your vision directly to the Group CEO and the subsidiary leaders—the ultimate partners whose capital and expertise will power your company's launch.
